Any way you slice it, poo is being slung into the proverbial fan. Terrorists are going to strike, after the next natural disaster but before the flu pandemic, and not before oil prices ratchet up another notch. Yet it seems most of the latchkey generation of entitlement, is living off both their credit cards and the belief that someone else will plan ahead.. for whatever.
Seriously, how many people do you actually know who have more in their "pandemic kit" than fresh Ipod batteries? How many of you know what all needs to go into a hurricane box? besides beer.
Well because of a last minute approach to everything , that most of society seems to liev with, I have added extra bullets to my own hurricane box, and pandemic kit.
For those who Blog all day without real attention to things, like groceries, and the actual interaction from the world around you,
a hurricane kit is a 3 day kit of things that for a pandemic you would need 10 x more of.
This does include water.
Think a recession , stock market crash or depression is NOT in the works? look at those things like adjustable rate morgtages,
and gasoline prices. Well, here gas is needed to get everything from point A to point B.. when gas goes up so does cost, when cost goes up so does price.
so.. how long can "cheap" be the word of the day ? not much longer. it wont be long in fact before we begin to see prices inching up on things like food, and clothing.. because we are competing for our oil with those countries that make the clothes and inexpensive goods we know and consume wastefully...
I know most of you are not currently buying those items that are, "in season" and freezing or canning them. perhaps though you should be.
Those ears of corn, 10 for a dollar will only be there through thew month of july.
Tomatoes now too, they are also in season in the south and also can be frozen for sauces. not too hard... but for my family I say ok... and Ill keep filling my "emergency" boxes. after all.. pandemic, depression, etc... weeds out those who do not plan ahead .. M

In most serious disasters such as a hurricane, power normally goes out. What happens to all frozen food?

We're accumulating a large stash of MRE's. Water-tight, no need for refrigeration or cooking...

If death comes to me by drowning or gunshot it will be relatively quick, but I'd hate to die slowly of starvation if grocery stores were no longer available.

But we'll still be screwed because we don't have a way to store massive amounts of potable water. I'm guessing a lot of people will be screwed if / when things get that bad.
