medical insurance for dental inadequate
Published on October 17, 2006 By Melissa176 In Health & Medicine
My husband pays top dollar for our health coverage. BUT, my son who is 14 , recently needed a couple of cavaties addressed and filled. the CO-PAY, was over 500$ for 3 small fillings. I know for us that was a shock considerning our insurance is suposed to cover 2 fillings PER year. and we had definatly been mis quoted by the dentists office, being told that our percentage of payment would be 160$, How can anyone afford dental care with these outrageous co-pays for dental? most medical dental plans do not seem to cover very much dental care at all. A family of 5 like we are, for cleanings and x-rays still share a huge burden of the over all cost, and have hundreds of dollars out of pocket expence! and by the time you pay that who can afford a filling.. when 200$ every month is added into living expence just for dental cleanings ?? I have to laugh about the medicaid dental for kids too though, therer is only one dentist in a 50 mile radius that sees medicaid kids, and he wont identify cavities and actually fill them at all. which is why my 14 yo son had 3 needing attention. he has medicaid insurance, but he had pain in his tooth. we took him elsewhere where we were told my husbands dental plan would way defray the cost, and we were mis quoted by 300!
thats just a scam . and it angers me. and it only makes my own needs for dental work go longer without attention.
kids and hubbie first.. and me , by the time I get mine cared for, I will only need dentures... maybe I need to save up now for them.
it is ridiculous ..
