There is a SUPER cool Grown up event coming up and I am so looking forward to going. matter of fact, every east coast fiber artist is looking forward to it ! it is called the Maryland Sheep and Wool festival. What is SO awesome about attending it is there is litterally something for everybody. I have seen lately that "natural fibers" for clothing are the "newest fashion trends" well, this place has TONS of it, as well as weavers, yarns for knitters crochetters, basket makers, tapestry makers, blankets, carpenters, antiques, it is a super HUGE bazar that focuses on the "fiber arts... meaning, angora, mohair, cashmere, alpaca, suri, guanaco, vicuna, etc etc etc, all in socks, scarves, shawls, sweaters, and no 2 the same , it is only held once a year, in MD, this year it is on on May 7th and 8th, at howard county fairgrounds, parking and admittance are free, but there are NO rides, lol it is a HUGE crowd of 30's+ ppl all acting very nice , and touching all kinds of things, there is even PLENTY for the men! like chamois, and a man who makes hand carved, hand woven seat type chairs, LOTS of lamb cooked ANY way possible .. there are sheep skins, sheep shows, dog events where working dogs give demos BLADE sharperners and heavy eq dealers... one year I watched a woman, using knitting needles that were so tiny, knitting with thin silk, and making a peacock with it's tail fanned out, onto a all silk kimona she was knitting... impressive... everything I have bought there, when ppl visit my home.. they always ask me where I got them, and I KNOW, while they can get something there that is equally unique, they likely cant get the exact same thing...
it is such a novel event, that while I of course would rather keep it to myself because I know about something you dont hehehehehe, I also know, that part of what drives the artistry of new vendors is a great turn out at MD.. so come and check for yourself.. but I wont be in any booth lol, I will likely be shopping for fleeces, dyes, and watching the corriedale sheep show
